October is my favourite month. When the sun hangs low, like a gleaming disc in an indigo sky. When the light is dark gold and mysterious tapering inky purple shadows appear along the shore. Both stone and sand sparkle, bejewelled in the slanting light. St.Michael's Mount motionless like a great ship docked in the bay, topped with a small child's flag. The ultramarine sea glistens, someone laughs. The rooftops and spires of Marazion shimmer and a dazzling white gull flies at a great height. My dog barks intently. October remembered, mirage-like. Autumn shadows, like memory itself.
