#FridayPainting : Surfer, Red Beach

Painting above - Surfer, Red Beach

This October the annual CLIC Sargent Ball was held in Newquay, Cornwall - where I went to school and lived until 2008.  A huge collection of fabulous things are donated for the auction during the evening.  This year, my large Red Surfer painting struck me as the perfect choice.  It went down a storm!  And helped raise an outstanding £6,500.00 to donate to the UK's leading cancer charity for children and young people.  It's truly heartwarming to know that this charity is working to establish specialist nurses who help children and young people spend less time in hospital, and more time at home.  Many thanks to everyone who took part in the event, and of course, the lovely local couple who dug deep and bought my painting, you made us all very happy.

Every day, 10 children and young people in the UK hear the shocking news they have cancer - Find out more about CLIC Sargent Charity, for children who have cancer.

Spot the Artist Exhibition - St. Ives, Cornwall

During the St. Ives September Festival, something extraordinary happened.  At the historic St. Ives School of Painting people started queuing 24 hours before (such enthusiasm!) the doors opened for the 'Spot the Artist' Exhibition. Sixty paintings were sold in the first 15 rather manic minutes, (the sales are limited to three per buyer). By 2.30 pm, the exhibition had raised an impressive £8,500.00 - enabling The Rotary Club of St. Ives to give support to charity and good causes, including one of my favourites - Shelterbox.  Around 220 awesome artists, many of whom are famous, contributed an 'anonymous' postcard-sized piece of original art.  If you'd like to get involved next year, please contact The Rotary Club of St. Ives Cornwall.
P.s. My little painting - Eventide, Cornwall, was sold to the 16th person in the queue!  Signed on the reverse, of course, Spot the Artist!

C.L.I.C. Sargent Charity - Newquay Ball, Cornwall

Out on the ocean sailing away,
I can hardly wait,
To see you to come of age,
But I guess we'll both,
Just have to be patient,
Yes it's a long way to go,
But in the meantime,

Before you cross the street,
Take my hand,
Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans...

Lyrics from - Beautiful Boy by John Lennon

This painting was donated to a charity auction at Hotel Bristol, Newquay, Cornwall on Saturday 9th October 2010, helping to raise in the region of £8,000.00 for C.L.I.C. Sargent Charity, which gives support to children and young people suffering from cancer and their families.

The lyrics are from the song 'Beautiful Boy' by John Lennon who wrote it for his son. John would have celebrated his 70th birthday on the day of the auction.
